(1) How is technology such as the Internet, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter or cell phones impacting the local and global community? Consider the economic or political consequences.
There many ways these social media sites are impacting the local and global community. One prime example of this is voters throughout the community. Voters are increasingly turning to these such sites to learn more about politics. Even though what people are posting may not necessarily be correct information, the principle idea is that people can post whatever they want. It was Obama's 2008 strategy that changed online campaigning. He used social media for such diverse tasks as connecting grass-roots supporters in vital early states and revealing his vice presidential pick by text message. Also, in the 2008 presidential election, meet ups organized online by Barack Obama supporters raised huge amounts of cash.
(2) In Egypt, how are blogs or
social media applications being used to change society?
The Revolution in Cairo illustrates this question precisely. In Cairo, Egypt there was a revolution that started off the basis of Facebook. Police brutality was a growing issue in Egypt, and the people were getting sick of it. There were a group of Egyptians that formed a group and posted their concerns and ideas all over Facebook. This group of people made an event on Facebook, April 6th to start a strike against police brutality. The more the police attacked the members of this group during these strikes, just gave them more drive to fight against the government. As you can see, social media played a huge role in this revolution. A group of people started posting their ideas while others started following these ideas. This can be done at any time if others are interested in what someone has to say.
